Canadian International Pharmacy Association (CIPA) Fights Rogue Websites Fraudulently Using the Trusted CIPA Verification Seal

CIPA Moves Aggressively to Protect Verification Seal, Which Signifies The Association's Long History and 100% Perfect Safety Record Serving American Consumers

WINNIPEG, MB--(Marketwired - Mar 2, 2015) - To protect the integrity of legitimate online pharmacy member companies who have maintained a 100% perfect safety record for more than 12 years, the Canadian International Pharmacy Association (CIPA) is aggressively pursuing rogue pharmacies falsely using the CIPA verification seal on their websites.

CIPA is taking action against rogue online pharmacies by identifying rogue websites and either demanding they remove the stolen CIPA-verified seal or requesting the domains be shut down entirely by the domain name registrar (registrars). CIPA is continually sending "cease and desist" letters to rogue sites and registrars, leading to the removal of the CIPA seal and/or the domains being blocked for rogue sites.

CIPA is an association of licensed retail pharmacies that sell 90-day supplies of pharmaceuticals and maintenance medications (but not controlled substances) to both Canadians and Americans with a valid prescription. CIPA member pharmacies provide a safe and reliable option for ordering health maintenance medications online, and members in good standing display the CIPA verification seal on their website.

The CIPA verification seal demonstrates the pharmacy follows a number of best practices, including: requiring a valid prescription for each order (which is verified with the patient's physician); quality controls; transparency about the pharmacy with contact information listed on their websites; and maintenance of patient privacy and confidentiality. This makes the CIPA verification seal an important consumer tool for identifying safe, legitimate pharmacies that will provide critical maintenance medications to U.S. consumers at reasonable prices.

Since establishing the association in 2002, CIPA pharmacies have served more than 10 million U.S. patients and maintained a 100 percent perfect safety record. The safety and reliability of CIPA member pharmacies, however, has led to the fraudulent use of the CIPA verification seal by "rogue" pharmacies. This can mislead consumers into thinking these rogue pharmacies, which typically do not follow CIPA's stringent safety and prescribing protocols, are CIPA members.

"With the skyrocketing costs of medications, Americans are increasingly seeking affordable alternatives for purchasing their much-needed prescription drugs at affordable prices. CIPA member pharmacies have been meeting this need for more than a dozen years, and consumers expect our unmatched level of safety, quality and reliability when ordering from our members. For this reason, we will continue to aggressively pursue those who fraudulently use our seal," said CIPA general manager Tim Smith.

Smith also suggested that consumers consult the CIPA website (, where consumers can learn more about the association, ordering medications safely online, and how to verify whether an online pharmacy is truly a CIPA member.
