The Canadian Kennel Club Soon to Kick-Off the First National Responsible Dog Ownership Week

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 17, 2008) - The first nationally coordinated Responsible Dog Ownership Week will take place September 20th-27th, concluding in a "Walk of Support" on RDOG DAY, Saturday September 27, 2008. This Canadian Kennel Club initiative is supported by like-minded organizations across the country including Canada Post, Canada Safety Council, Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, Canadian Federation of Humane Societies, Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council, Petsecure, Iams, Petlynx Corporation, and a growing number of Canadian cities that understand the value of officially recognizing Responsible Dog Ownership Week.

Responsible Dog Ownership Groups (RDOG's) have been challenged with holding local events, demonstrations, school visits and organizing the "Walk of Support" within their own communities. All dog owners are encouraged to bring their dogs out and participate in their neighbourhood "Walk of Support."

A wealth of knowledge and information from many organizations is available supporting canine safety through education. The Canadian Kennel Club encourages the general public (owners and non-owners alike) to avail themselves of this material and ultimately foster safer communities through responsible dog ownership. From licensing and health care, obedience and bite prevention, to children's and workers' safety, dog owners must collectively accept the responsibilities of having a dog in their home, and ensure our canine companions are valued members of their local communities.

For general information and to review the growing list of RDOG supporters please visit under CKC Services and follow the RDOG links.

A press conference will be held in conjunction with the CKC "Walk of Support" Saturday September 27th. at 11:45. Location, Canadian Kennel Club, National Head Office, 200 Ronson Drive, Etobicoke, ON., with opportunity for dog owner, supporter, participant, and canine expert interviews.
