Canadian Literary, Arts & Cultural Magazines Now Highlighted and Available on Multiple Platforms

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - Sep 30, 2014) - Magazines Canada, in partnership with Kobo Inc. and 49th Shelf, has created mini-stores where Canadian arts and literary titles can be discovered, sampled and purchased.

"Because there is limited access to these titles in traditional retail outlets, many Canadians don't realize how many fantastic cultural magazines this country produces, showcasing our best writers and artists," says Barbara Bates, Executive Director of Circulation Marketing at Magazines Canada. "These online special collections will give art and literary magazines the spotlight they deserve and make them easily available to readers across Canada and around the world."

Many well-known Canadian authors have been published in both book and magazine formats. By partnering with Kobo and 49th Shelf, which primarily appeal to book readers, Magazines Canada is reaching out to a receptive audience of e-book consumers who will love e-magazines as well.

"Cultural magazines and books have such an amazingly symbiotic relationship. One definitely feeds the other. Magazines are a fantastic place to discover, sample, nurture and experiment with great writers, and to give them the footing to eventually expand into book projects that benefit us all. They're a fundamental part of the literary ecosystem in Canada," says Stacey May Fowles, author and writer.

In addition to literary magazines, the special collections will feature acclaimed arts and culture titles like Brick, The New Quarterly, Visual Arts News and more. For more information, visit Kobo.com/CulturalMags and magazines.49thshelf.com.

This targeted online marketing campaign is supported by print ads, price discounts and a contest with a grand prize of $500 worth of Canadian magazines and books including a Kobo Arc 10HD tablet, and a second prize of $250 worth of Canadian magazines and books.

This Magazines Canada campaign is financially supported by the Canada Council of the Arts. Project partners include Kobo Inc. and 49th Shelf.
