Canadian Living home Cook contest

Canadian Living Jenn-Air contest seeks home Cook of the Year Attention: Arts/Entertainment Editor, Assignment Editor, Food/Beverage Editor, Lifestyle Editor, Photo Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 30, 2006) - Canada's number-one women's magazine is calling on home cooks across Canada to turn up the heat, get into the kitchen and enter the Canadian Living Jenn-Air Cook of the Year contest. The challenge: create an original main course recipe for a casual dinner for six. The recipe must include ingredients from three specific lists found, along with entry instructions and detailed prize information, in the April issue of Canadian Living or at the magazine web site at

The contest is a celebration according to magazine editor-in-chief Susan Antonacci. "The Cook of the Year contest is about celebrating the role that food plays in our readers' lives. It's also about celebrating the role Canadian Living has played in readers' kitchens for more than 30 years."

Entries will be narrowed down to 16 semi-finalists by the Canadian Living test kitchen. From these, four finalists will be selected. They will travel to Toronto for a June 23 cook-off in the Canadian Living test kitchen. A panel of judges chaired by Canadian Living's food editor Elizabeth Baird will choose the Cook of the Year from among the four.

Elizabeth says the Cook of the Year contest recognizes the unique role food plays in families' lives. "Of course, we all love to dine out. But at our magazine - the magazine that five million people read every month - we believe that everyday dinners, family get-togethers, and meals made with love are what people remember most. That's the kind of cooking that creates a culinary heritage."

As well as a $10,000-plus kitchen from Jenn-Air, the Cook of the Year will have her or his recipe printed in Canadian Living.

The contest is open to home cooks only - no professionals. Entries must be received by mail no later than April 24 at: Cook of the Year Contest, c/o Canadian Living Magazine,
P.O. Box 7750, Station "B" Willowdale, ON, M2K 2Z9
