Canadian "Silent Walk" to Mark Dutch Liberation

In REMEMBRANCE of VE Day Veterans

LONDON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 2, 2011) - The Friends of Veterans Canada is holding a "silent walk" around Victoria Park this May 4th, 2011, which starts at 2pm and is open to anyone.

We will be marking the sacrifice of Canadian soldiers made in the Netherlands 66 years ago one day before VE Day.

There will be a similar "Silent Walk" in the Dutch city of Nijkerk, Holland, to honour the 66th anniversary of that country's liberation on May 5, 1945.

The walk will start after two minutes of silence at the cenotaph at Victoria Park and continues around the park at 2pm this week on May 4, 2011.

This event is helping to mark our government's decision to set May aside as Dutch Heritage Month.

Friends of Veterans Canada is a registered charity that records veterans' stories as to save them in the Veterans Video Library so future generations of Canadians will have access to their stories.

"We have a saying: Let those who come after not let their names be forgotten."
