Canadian Society for Civil Engineering Elects Dr. A.G. Razaqpur of McMaster University

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - June 12, 2006) - A.G. Razaqpur was elected President of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering during the CSCE Annual General Meeting in Calgary, Alberta on May 25.

Professor Razaqpur joined McMaster University in July 2005 and holds the Effective Design of Structures endowed chair in the Department of Civil Engineering in addition to serving as the Director of the Centre for Effective Design of Structures. Professor Razaqpur taught for 22 years at Carleton University in Ottawa, and served in various administrative positions there, including a three year term as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Dr. Razaqpur's association with CSCE spans over 20 years, including terms as Vice-President Technical Divisions and Senior Vice-President. He has participated in many technical activities of the Society, including several CSCE-sponsored missions to Egypt, Pakistan, Japan and a number of European countries.

Dr. Razaqpur's primary focus as President will be to increase individual and corporate membership. In order to ensure that Canadian civil engineers' views are heard on major professional and social issues, he is keen to expand the CSCE's participation in relevant national and international forums.

Founded in 1887, the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering is a national, not-for-profit, learned society. It is dedicated to providing civil engineers with opportunities to enhance their professional development through continuing education, networking and advocacy activities, publications, and a program of international exchange. With a National Office located in Montreal, CSCE is comprised of 23 sections located across Canada and is a constituent society of the Engineering Institute of Canada.
