Canadian SPCA Hosting Montreal's First Major Dog Walk-A-Thon

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 28, 2005) - Join the SPCA to give a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves! Help us raise money to hire more Animal Protection Officers. For many of us, our pet's life contrasts greatly from the thousands of animals that are abandoned each year at the SPCA, or those that we seize from the hands of abuse either from their master or because of the lax animal protection laws in the province of Quebec. We hope this powerful comparison will motivate the public to look at their beloved four-legged friend and be inspired to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.

On Sunday October 16, 2005, the Canadian SPCA is closing down Montreal's downtown to host its inaugural dog walk-a-thon, The Shaggy Dog Strut. We are inviting all animal lovers to fill the streets to raise pledges for the SPCA, and to say loudly that we are a community that loves, respects and protects animals.

Montreal is one of the only cities in Canada that does not host a major dog walk-a-thon. According to Pierre Barnoti, "After a decade of just trying to keep the door's open, this is the time that the SPCA can re-connect with the communities we serve and work together for animal protection and welfare!".
