Collecting firewood has become a question of life and death for Darfuris; if men are caught, they are killed; if women are caught they are raped. Every day families make the impossible choice of who will take on this dangerous task.

On December 10th, international Human Rights Day, thousands of women and men will demonstrate outside Sudanese embassies around the world, showing their solidarity with the women of Darfur. Many will gather around fires or light a flame - symbolising firewood gathering that makes so many women victims of rape in Darfur. Participants will wear black in mourning.
