Canadian Students See "Aftermath" of Impaired Driving in New School Assembly Program

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 3, 2014) - MADD Canada, along with National Sponsors Allstate Insurance Company of Canada and RTL-Westcan Group of Companies, are visiting a Calgary school on Tuesday, October 7, for a special screening of a powerful new educational film to show students the dangers of mixing alcohol and/or drugs with driving.

Impaired driving takes a disproportionate toll on young people. Continuing education and awareness is crucial to preventing deadly crashes. Each year, MADD Canada produces a film for youth to highlight the risks and the consequences of impaired driving. This year's program, titled Aftermath, is currently being delivered to schools across the country.

A special screening to highlight the program and its life-saving messages is being held at Robert Thirsk School in Calgary on October 7.

Media are welcome to attend the launch and speak with special guests, students and school staff.
Date: Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 10 a.m.
Location: Robert Thirsk High School - 8777 Nose Hill Drive NW, Calgary, AB
Guests: Jack Hunt, Agency Manager, Allstate Insurance Company of Canada
Zoë LeParque, Communications Associate, RTL-Westcan Group of Companies
Andrew Murie, MADD Canada Chief Executive Officer

Aftermath tells the fictional story of Charlie, as told by his younger brother Mark. When Charlie decides to drive after drinking and smoking pot - and convinces his best friend Elliott to go with him - the resulting crash leaves a devastating aftermath. Struggling to deal with his feelings, Mark makes a video for Charlie about that terrible decision to drive impaired. The story is followed by emotional and moving interviews with family members of real-life victims of impaired driving. The combination of fictional and real-life stories shows students how one bad decision can have a lasting impact.

Thanks to the support of Allstate Canada, RTL-Westcan, KIA Canada (MADD Canada's Official Automotive Partner) and numerous other provincial sponsors, MADD Canada will deliver some 2,350 presentations of Aftermath and the French show called Impact, to students across Canada during the 2014-2015 school year.
