For over seven years Sunshine Kids Foundation has been inspiring Canadian kids

Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Health/Medical Editor, Lifestyle Editor, News Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO, MEDIA RELEASE--(Marketwire - May 11, 2009) - For over seven years Canadian Sunshine Kids Foundation, has been inspiring Canadian kids with cancer to have hope and enjoy life.

The Canadian Sunshine Kids Foundation's mission is to add quality of life to children with cancer by providing them with exciting, positive group activities, so they may once again do what kids are supposed to do - have fun and celebrate life.

"In a world where so many charities dedicate themselves to raising money to battle and work so hard to find a cure for the dreaded "C," Canadian Sunshine Kids Foundation's mission and goal take an entirely different direction," says Pat Melhuish, National Chairperson, Canadian Sunshine Kids Foundation and Real Estate Broker with Prudential Real Estate. "Nobody should have to face the possibility of cancer taking their life, but for children to have to face that possibility is a tragedy."

The charity originated in the U.S. 26 years ago and has been Prudential Real Estate's charity of choice for 18 years, It has been actively helping kids with cancer in Canada for the past several years, and due largely to the efforts of the Prudential offices in Canada, The Canadian Sunshine Kids Foundation was registered in 2004.

Presently, there are four hospitals across Canada participating with the Canadian Sunshine Kids Foundation; IWK Healthcare in Halifax, NS; Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Ottawa, ON; The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, ON; and British Columbia Children's Hospital in Vancouver, BC.

"For children deprived of the opportunity to be ?just kids,' the future is not something they spend too much time thinking about - they have barely started on life's journey and the future is already in doubt," says Pat Melhuish. "What the Canadian Sunshine Kids Foundation offers them is the opportunity to enjoy 'the now'."

At a time when these kids lives seem the darkest, Sunshine Kids provide them with opportunities to surf in Hawaii, visit New York (known as the Summer Broadway Break), ski the Rockies, or to enjoy the benefits of Texas Hill Country - trips to destinations such as these can be just the catalyst for hope that a child needs.

"Thank you so much for this great opportunity. This week really helped me to forget the hard times in the hospital …," says Kate Byman, Sunshine Kid, Victoria, BC." "Being a child with cancer, you think your life is over before it has ever started, but coming on this trip helps you realize that a lot of kids are going through the same and are surviving too."

In an effort to raise funds and provide hope for these children with cancer, the Canadian Sunshine Kids Foundation is having for the first time, a "Big Top Gala," a circus themed dinner and dance on Friday May 29, at the Capitol Banquet Centre in Mississauga. "While Prudential Real Estate offices across Canada do the bulk of the work, it goes without saying, but the Canadian Sunshine Kids Foundation would not be able to help kids if it were not for those who so kindly donate to the cause," says Pat. IN: HEALTH, OTHER
