Canadian SVI Conference Helps Nice Guys Finish First

Attention: Assignment Editor, Business/Financial Editor, Environment Editor, News Editor VANCOUVER, B.C.--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 7, 2005) - Bringing together socially responsible entrepreneurs from across North America and around the world, the largest Social Venture Institute conference ever to be held in Canada will run from September 7th to the 11th at Hollyhock Centre, Cortes Island, British Columbia. The SVI conference is designed to offer an interactive and affordable way for the leaders of socially conscious business ventures to work towards greater success through mentoring along with peer and expert advice.

Keynote speakers for the SVI 2005 at Hollyhock event include Peter Robinson, CEO of Mountain Equipment Co-op; Gary Hirshberg, President and CEO of Stonyfield Farms; and Nina Utne, Chair and CEO of Utne Magazine. SVI conferences are held throughout each year in various cities across North America. SVI was founded in 1996 by Gary Hirshberg.

"SVI adds to Canada's strong tradition of socially conscious enterprise by offering a structured environment in which like-minded entrepreneurs can find cohesion and support," said Joel Solomon, president of Renewal Partners, who along with Social Venture Network and Canadian Business for Social Responsibility, is presenting the event. "The growing success of this conference suggests more and more people appreciate that good business sense and social responsibility can, do and should go hand in hand," Solomon added, noting that the conference sold out six months in advance of the event.

"SVI helps people who lead with their hearts develop stronger business minds," said Jason Mogus, a repeat conference attendee and CEO of Communicopia, a premier interactive agency for progressive organizations across North America. "The world needs models of business leaders who deliver on multiple bottom lines," Mogus continued.

Designed for CEO's and leaders of established businesses and non-profits, SVI provides attendees the opportunity to present their business challenges to expert respondents and peers for review. Seminars include raising second stage capital, overcoming sales and marketing challenges and managing organizational change.

Hollyhock is Canada's leading educational retreat centre -- a place for individuals and groups to come together to promote vision, renewal, strategy, skill development, team building, well-being, and social change. SVI is part of a new stream of programming at Hollyhock Centre targeting business and social leaders working towards making the world a better place.
