Canadian University Press Restructures, Welcomes Jane Lytvynenko Into Executive Role

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - Apr 8, 2014) - As our fundraising campaign is coming to a close and the board has been budgeting for the year ahead, the CUP Board of Directors has had to make the difficult but necessary decision to restructure CUP's National Office.

On behalf of the CUP board after a great deal of consultation and approval of our budget changes, I am pleased to inform you that the National Office for CUP 77 will be staffed by Jane Lytvynenko, former National Bureau Chief-elect. 

Lytvynenko is a very capable individual with experience in both management and editorial roles. We are confident in her abilities and experiences to run this organization, and we feel assured that CUP is in good hands with her at the helm. She brings with her four years of student press experience. She was CUP's former Ottawa Bureau Chief for the past two years, has been the news editor of The Fulcrum, hosted the radio shows Ivory Antenna and Campus Voice on CHUO, and writes for Maclean's On Campus section. Lytvynenko also has four years of corporate communications and managerial experience with a nationwide company where she managed a team with offices across the country. She has advanced skills in a variety of mediums and platforms, and has established relationships with key players in the industry during her career in student press.

Lytvynenko will begin her new role May 1 on a part-time basis. Due to CUP's finances, she will be working 10 hours per week until mid August when she will begin working full-time hours until April 30, 2015, subject to her ratification at the next members meeting.

The restructuring plan, approved unanimously by the Board, sees core responsibilities from both the CUP President and National Bureau Chief's job descriptions arranged into one job description for a single national executive. The decision came directly out of the budget consultation meeting held in mid-March with CUP members where it was apparent that our National Office could not remain unaffected by a smaller budget without compromising member services.

As a result of this restructure, the separate staff positions of CUP President and National Bureau Chief no longer exist. The sole full-time staffer will be responsible for a combination of the duties delegated to the old positions, which the board believes will ensure CUP members in CUP 77 will receive the support and services CUP membership expect despite the current extraordinary circumstances.
