Canadian Urban Institute Releases Report on Affordable Home Ownership

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - June 06, 2017) - The Canadian Urban Institute, with support from Evergreen, Options for Homes and the GTA Housing Action Lab, has released a report entitled "Scaling Up Affordable Home Ownership". The paper points to promising approaches that can support middle income families (HHI 40-80k) that are underserved in the GTA's current housing market. Much attention is paid to rental housing, but a healthy housing system is one that offers the right mix of rental and ownership housing to meet the needs of our growing and diverse communities.

Options for Homes (Options) is pleased to see this report released by Evergreen. We hope this report draws attention to the important role that affordable home ownership can play as one of the many solutions to the issue of housing affordability in the GTA.

The report is available here: https://www.evergreen.ca/downloads/pdfs/HousingActionLab/HAL_AdvancingAffordableHome_FINAL.pdf

To compliment the release of the report, on June 27th, 2017, CUI and regional housing leaders from government, private, and non-profit sectors, will host a discussion at the Urbanspace Gallery in Toronto. If you would like to attend, please RSVP at: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/scaling-up-affordable-home-ownership-tickets-35011573559

CEO of Options for Homes, Heather Tremain says, "We hope that affordable home ownership -- which hasn't received much attention from policymakers -- will soon become a policy darling. As affordable ownership housing can be delivered very efficiently with limited government support, with more supportive policy and funding we can scale up to meet the increased demand and help to relieve immediate market pressures."
