Canadian Wildlife Federation Goose Gala a Smashing Success

TORONTO, ON --(Marketwired - April 15, 2016) - The second annual Canadian Wildlife Federation Goose Gala presented by Rogers raised over $275,000 in support of the Federation's ongoing efforts to conserve the precious natural resources that define Canada.

Acclaimed actor and comedian Martin Short entertained over 250 guests including The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, Her Honour, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Ronnie Hawkins, Robert Bateman and supermodel and National Wildlife Week Ambassador Yasmin Warsame, at the prestigious Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto on April 14.

Hosted by sports broadcaster and Officer of the Order of Canada Brian Williams, the evening celebrations included a special tribute by the Canadian Wildlife Foundation Chair, Dr. Bernie Gosevitz to Loretta Rogers in recognition of her contribution to wildlife conservation in Canada.

Organized by the Canadian Wildlife Foundation, a fundraising arm of the Canadian Wildlife Federation, sponsors of the event included Rogers Communications, HSBC, National Post and Stoney Ridge Estate Wineries, among numerous other corporate and individual supporters.

"I am overwhelmed by the generosity and support we receive from so many corporations and individuals who care deeply about our amazing wildlife and wild spaces," says Dr. Bernie Gosevitz, Canadian Wildlife Foundation Chair. "It truly demonstrates how profoundly our connection to wildlife is part of our Canadian identity."

Held during National Wildlife Week (April 10-16), this year's theme "Giving Wings to Wildlife Conservation" celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Migratory Birds Convention, the first international wildlife conservation treaty between Canada and the US and raised awareness about our winged friends such as butterflies, songbirds and bees, all of which are in decline due to habitat loss, impacts from pesticides, and climate change.

"I would like to personally thank the Gala committee members for all their hard work, the talented Martin Short for entertaining the crowd, and the sponsors and guests for their incredible contributions to the evening's success," says Rick Bates, Canadian Wildlife Federation Acting CEO. "Their tremendous contributions will have a direct impact on wildlife conservation in Canada and help ensure our natural world remains part of our legacy for generations to come."
