A little taste of Canada will soon find its way to the Tuscan villas of Italy. Craft brewing pioneer Frank Heaps of Upper Canada and Steam Whistle Brewing is joined with famed restaurateur Alida Solomon and real estate expert James Estrin to create an unparalleled Canadian-owned venture that includes an on-site artisanal (craft) brewery, brewpub, boutique hotel and restaurant.

"We are very excited to be bringing the best of Canada's brewing success to Villa San Dalmazio. Built across 100 acres of picturesque Tuscan land, our microbrewery will be integrated into a café/brewpub equipped with indoor & outdoor seating and kitchen," said Heaps. "Gourmet beer in Italy is a rapidly growing market. Our design of the brewery is unique in that its requirements for barley, the main ingredient for superior quality beer, will be met on-site. Tutti Matti San Dalmazio affords investors a chance to own a piece of Italy's history and exquisite architecture, coupled with Canada's best brewing methods."

Craft Brewing

Pioneered by Heaps' Upper Canada, the craft brewing industry began in the late 1980's, and since then craft beer represents more than 10 per cent of the Canadian and American beer markets - a trend in Italy where artisanal beers are dramatically increasing in demand.

The beer industry in Italy closely mirrors that of Canada, the U.S. and most countries around the world. The vast majority of consumers favour lagers and pilsners and a rapidly growing segment of the market (in particular Italy) is attracted to different, more interesting, complex and flavourful artisanal brews. Assisted by the experience of one of Canada's most successful craft breweries, Steam Whistle Brewing, Tutti Matti Tuscany's Birra dei Matti ("beer of the crazies") will enter that specialized/craft beer market and will have, as its core product, a fine European pilsner; while also producing a variety of flavoured specialty beer. Growth will come primarily from the more discerning beer consumer (those that are radically switching their tastes from mass produced national/international brands to a craft brewed pilsner). "Birra dei Matti's growth will mirror that of the positioning strategy of Steam Whistle in Canada answering the call for more flavourful, unique brews," added Heaps. "Our bottled and draft beer sales will initially focus on the Tuscan market and will spread beyond to other parts of Italy and Europe."

James Estrin, Toronto real estate professional and expert in the marketing and sales of luxury resort properties, is the man behind sourcing and securing the perfect location for this multi-faceted business venture. "After analyzing upwards of 40 properties in Tuscany, Villa San Dalmazio emerged as the very best of strategic location, property amenities and price; this villa, with its unique Tutti Matti offerings, will fulfill a growing demand of local markets and as well as that of regional tourists," said Estrin.
