CANARIE Adds Eight Connections to its Network

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 12, 2009) - Eight additional organizations will access the CANARIE Network through its Infrastructure Extensions Program. Launched in the fall of 2007, the $15M Program creates extensions to Canada's research and education network that will enhance/accelerate research, enable national and international collaboration, improve access to knowledge, and contribute to the development of cyber infrastructure and e-research in Canada.

The eight organizations expected to be connected by the summer of 2009 include: Maurice Lamontagne Institute (Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Mont Joli, QC), The Nova Scotia Community College (Akerley Campus, Dartmouth, NS), The Banff Centre (Banff, AB), CAE Inc. (Montreal, QC), Lethbridge Research Centre (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Lethbridge, AB), Canadian Museum of Nature (Ottawa, ON), Library and Archives Canada (Gatineau, QC), and the Institute for Ocean Technology (National Research Council Canada, St. John's, NL).

Along with these new connections, CANARIE also maintains its current connections to sites which were added through the former CANARIE Connections Program. As a result, dozens of labs and institutions will continue to conduct research and educate using the high-bandwidth network.

"Providing new and continued access to the CANARIE Network is essential to Canada's research and education communities", says Guy Bujold, CANARIE President and CEO. "CANARIE's objective to expand the network reinforces Canada's position as a leader in developing an advanced research network which strengthens science and research in Canada, and ultimately contributes to the wealth, wellness and wellbeing of Canadians."
