Cancun Resort Assists Flying Doctors of America in Crusade Across Yucatan

CANCUN, MEXICO--(Marketwired - May 23, 2013) - Helping to bring health care to low-income communities, a prominent Cancun resort joined in assisting Flying Doctors of America in a five-day solidary crusade across Yucatan, Mexico. Uniting with other Cancun luxury resorts and organizations to assist the doctors, this initial crusade brought medical and dental care to low-income communities in the region April 14-18.

Joining with some of the best resorts in Cancun to aid the Flying Doctors of America in their mission to bring vital help to the poorest of the poor, the JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa worked with CasaMagna Marriott Cancun Resort, Courtyard Cancun, the Lodge at Uxmal hotel and the MayaLand organization to organize a solidary crusade to assist in providing care to underprivileged residents of the area.

Making their way across Yucatan through the communities of San Simon, San Jose, Santa Elena and Muna, a group of 25 doctors, dentists, translators and local volunteers worked with government representatives to offer more than 700 free medical consultations and services to those in need. In addition to providing checkups, the professionals also performed minor surgical procedures for both children and adults who would otherwise be deprived of medical and dental attention.

"I am really happy that we could finally bring this initiative to Yucatan, Mexico and I am really grateful to my colleagues and our sponsors who supported this activity without expecting anything in return and with the only purpose to help the ones who need it," said Allan Gathercoal, Flying Doctors of America founder. Gathercoal founded the organization in 1990 as a personal initiative with his main goal that of helping people in need in developing countries where it is not easy to have access to medicines or medical care.
