Canfor Announces Plans to Enhance Service to Japanese and Asian Markets

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - July 12, 2005) - Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP) today announced their plans for a new distribution centre dedicated to servicing the Japanese and other Asia Pacific markets.

Canfor's International Distribution Centre will be the lower mainland's largest covered lumber re-load facility. The distribution centre was announced as part of Canfor's Asia Pacific strategy, reflecting President and CEO Jim Shepherd's plans to increase market share and profitability by working more closely with customers in order to meet their needs, and by identifying and developing growing markets.

"Canfor's International Distribution Centre is part of our broader supply chain management strategy," said Shepherd. "Beginning with our certified forests, to the investments in our mills and the efficient distribution of our products, right through to the customer relations management in the marketplace. Canfor is providing exceptional service to our customers and positioning itself to secure profitable markets," he said.

British Columbia's Forests and Range Minister, Rich Coleman, was on hand for today's announcement. "With this project, Canfor confirms BC's commitment to key Asian markets. The company's new centre builds on the province's $15 million investment, through Forestry Innovation Investment Ltd., to aggressively pursue and expand these export markets," he said.

The Canfor International Distribution Centre will occupy a 10-acre site in Richmond along the south arm of the Fraser River. The facility will have capacity to accommodate 20-million board feet of lumber, giving Canfor flexibility in servicing its Japanese and other Asia Pacific markets, while helping ensure a reliable supply for its customers.

Canfor is a leading integrated forest products company based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The company is the largest producer of softwood lumber and one of the largest producers of northern softwood kraft pulp in Canada. Canfor also produces kraft paper, plywood, remanufactured lumber products, oriented strand board (OSB), hardboard paneling and a range of specialized wood products, including baled fibre and fibre mat at 30 facilities located in BC, Alberta and Quebec.
