Doug Bergmann from Edmonton, Alberta is the best Canuck who can Tuck! Doug is Canada's newest sporting champ, beating out 9 competitors including 2007 Champion Brian Utley, to win the coveted title of 2008 National Cannonball Champion at The 4th Annual Trident Splash(i) National Cannonball Championship held this morning at Toronto's Ashbridge's Bay, Donald D. Summerville Pool.

"I feel like I won the lottery!" says Doug Bergmann, a 29 year old Rehab Practitioner. "The months of training and hard work really paid off and I couldn't have done it without my amazing coaching team and costume designer. I'm looking forward to returning next year to defend my title and win back-to-back Championships!"

Doug wins $2000 cash and the bragging rights to being named Canada's newest Cannonball champ! Each of the 10 finalists performed three cannonballs off a 5 metre platform for an enthusiastic live audience and panel of judges. In full costume, the competitors brought personal style, flair, spins, summersaults, splats, and of course, splash!

"The Trident Splash National Cannonball Championship is what summer, and Trident Splash gum, is all about. With such a fierce group of competitors looking to win the title, this year's cannonballers showed that they all had the cannonballs to compete and we congratulate Cannonball Doug for making the biggest splash," says Mackenzie Davison, Director, Trident, Cadbury North America. "Just like cannonballing, Trident Splash is all about having fun and making a big splash and what better way to introduce our newest gum flavour, Trident Splash Orange Swirl."

Doug takes the title away from Brian Utley, the former champ and two time world cannonball champion. Brian Utley was runner up with Gary Heald, a close third.

"Congratulations to Doug and my fellow Albertan," says Brian Utley of Calgary, Alberta. "I was hoping to retire this year but I want to end my 'ballin career on a high note. I will probably return next year with my old-school cannonball style to reclaim the title!"

Celebrating its fourth year, the Trident Splash National Cannonball Championship held regional finals in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal looking for thrill seekers who have the cannonballs to compete. Cannonballers also entered the competition at
