Canpages Responds to Market Frustration by Re-Inventing Phone Directories and Launching Innovative Canada-Wide Local Search Engine

Print directory overscopes the Greater Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto areas giving users and advertisers what they've long been waiting for

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - March 14, 2007) - Canpages Inc. (Canpages), publisher of more than 70 phone directories across Canada with a total circulation of 5.6 million, announced the official launch of its much anticipated, and regionally comprehensive, Greater Vancouver and Greater Calgary-wide area print directories. Combined, the two new print directories will have a distribution of more than 1.1 million. In tandem, the company also introduced an innovative online and wireless Canada-wide local search engine at

In response to demand from consumers and advertisers, Canpages' Greater Vancouver and Greater Calgary directories differentiate themselves with their improved geographical scope, better design and superior editorial content. For example, in Vancouver, Canpages covers six cities in one book while the incumbent directories have four different editions.

This better corresponds to the way consumers live, travel between home and work, and generally shop for products and services. Canpages' directories also stand apart with the quality of their content: comprehensive transit information; high quality maps; entertainment, tourism and community information; restaurant and take-out menus; and enhanced listings updates are just some examples.

"For several years now, consumers and businesses have seen their local directories shrink as a result of the reduction in coverage and the removal of useful content by the incumbent publisher," said Olivier Vincent, president and CEO of Canpages. "Now, Canpages is re-inventing the way directories are designed and brought to market, delivering the products the market has been waiting for and hoping would come."

According to an Ipsos Reid survey, more than 78 percent of the Greater Vancouver inhabitants responded positively to this new concept. Similar numbers were received in Calgary as well as in Toronto. Canpages will publish its inaugural Greater Toronto area directories in summer 2007, thereby extending to Torontonians the benefits of enhanced searching that Vancouverites and Calgarians now enjoy.

Mr. Vincent also added that the combination of the company's rapidly growing business print directories and its new online service is part of Canpages' strategy to better serve users and businesses alike. This approach is winning market share from the competition by offering consumers and businesses more features and better geographical scope while charging advertisers significantly lower rates for wider circulation.

Feedback to Canpages has been resoundingly positive with many advertisers welcoming this long awaited alternative with open arms.

Innovative Online and Wireless Search Engine - and Canpages Mobile is the first local search engine of its kind in Canada. Using the easy-to-remember 604 411 short code, within seconds, users have full access to the business listings database, searching by company name or by keyword. Canpages also provides local weather forecasts and will soon be extending this service to all major Canadian markets.

"Our new online and wireless local search engines complement our growing directory business," said Vincent. "With these new search tools, the Canpages data and information is now available whenever and wherever - at home, at work and on-the-go."

Dave Chalk, technologist, founder of Chalk Media, and a renowned industry expert sees Canpages' progressive services as a long awaited response to the manner in which users want to search for local information today.

"I tried Canpages' online directory and was pleasantly surprised with the power of the search experience. It goes way beyond just looking up names and phone numbers, and allows people to find very detailed, targeted and relevant information," said Chalk. "In addition to its advanced search ability, includes Google's interactive maps to localize the information for users in a way that has never been done before."
