Can't Make the Walk? We've Got A Whole Week of Fun Events Where You Can Show Your Support!

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 11, 2013) - During September, schedules fill up fast and deciding which event, fundraiser or party to attend is a common conundrum so this year, the Scotiabank AIDS Walk For Life team in Toronto is alleviating the anxiety by creating a week of fundraising events leading up to Walk Day on September 22nd.

If supporters can't get to the Walk, they can still participate by attending one of the experiences happening during the week of September 16 - 22.

Shaun Proulx, Chair of this year's Toronto Walk and popular Canadian media personality, recognized the need to expand the effort. "I've been a supporter of this cause for so many years. As this year's Chair, I really wanted to emphasize the importance of support, not only that of our treasured repeat walkers, but support from a new audience, too. So I thought, 'let's make this fun and sexy!'", says Proulx. "These days everyone has different schedules, but we still want them to be a part of a Walk experience, so we've set the preceding week up where supporters can attend our special events and activations and contribute on their own time."

September 16 - Church Street goes red for the week and businesses show their support by incorporating the powerful colour into their design.

September 17 - Eat to support the cause at Church Street Dines, where participating restaurants offer special menu items and contribute a portion of the proceeds to the Walk.

September 18 - Shop good and shop hard, with a portion of purchases going toward the cause!

September 19 - Sip your support by participating in Church Street Drinks on Thursday - specially-designed cocktails

September 20 & 21 - Church Street Parties! On Friday, join Richard Ryder at The Black Eagle for a sexy fundraiser, then, on Saturday, donate your dollars and dance under the disco ball at Fly Nightclub, with a portion of the cover going to the Walk.

In addition to Walk Day on September 22, to commemorate Toronto's 25th year of hosting the Scotiabank AIDS Walk For Life, the CN Tower honours the city's commitment to the cause as they light up the Tower in red, white and black! This is in addition to their dazzling daily eight-minute light show at the top of the hour.

Funds raised will support a range of activities at AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT), including health promotion and HIV prevention programs, as well as support services for people living with, affected by and at risk for HIV/AIDS. The Walk not only raises funds, but awareness about HIV/AIDS. Visit for more information about ACT's programs and services.
