Capital Power Receives National Safety Recognition from Canadian Electricity Association

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Nov. 6, 2014) - Capital Power (TSX:CPX) was awarded with the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) President's Award of Excellence for Employee Safety (bronze level) for its Canadian operations as well as the CEA Vice-President's Award of Safety Excellence for Generation (bronze level). The awards were presented at the CEA's annual Occupational Health and Safety Awards in Ottawa on November 5.

For the second time Capital Power is being recognized with the CEA's President's Award of Excellence for Employee Safety. The previous award in 2010 was also at the bronze level, which recognizes companies that meet the award criteria for the given year.

It's an honor to be recognized for our safety performance amongst our peers in the electricity industry."

In addition to the corporate award, four Capital Power employees were presented with CEA Lifesaving Awards for their actions in helping save the life of a member of the general public. CEA Lifesaving Awards were presented to:

  • Craig Butler, Sr. Manager, G3 Production, Genesee - Assisted in rescuing a driver with a broken leg from a burning vehicle.
  • Adam Tarnowski, Welder Apprentice, Genesee - Assisted in rescuing a driver with a broken leg from a burning vehicle.
  • Kimball Scott, Power Engineer, Genesee - Assisted in rescuing a driver with a broken leg from a burning vehicle.
  • Brittni Hallett, Payroll Clerk, Edmonton - Assisted a person in distress during an epileptic seizure.

The OHS awards recognize excellence in employee safety in the Canadian electricity sector and honor CEA member performance. The CEA President's Awards of Excellence for Employee Safety represents company-wide OHS achievement in the transmission, distribution, generation, corporate services and customer services operations. Recipients must be in the top quartile for both All Injury/Illness Frequency and Lost-Time Injury Severity rates.
