Capture, Engage, Promote and Protect: Take Control of Your Instructional Media With EchoSystem 3.0

Echo360 Announces New Capabilities to Enhance the Online Learning Experience, Manage Media Content From Any Source, Promote and Protect the University Brand

ANAHEIM, CA--(Marketwire - October 13, 2010) -  EDUCAUSE -- Echo360,, the recognized leader in campus-wide solutions that enable universities to record, manage and share rich media course content for lecture capture and distance learning, today unveiled EchoSystem 3.0. The announcement was made at the EDUCAUSE tradeshow where Echo360 will demonstrate the capabilities of EchoSystem 3.0 in booth 1209.

The widespread use of affordable screen recording tools and consumer video cameras to produce instructional media has created a significant management challenge for faculty and institutions. Because the media is often stored in multiple formats and disparate locations, it is difficult for all but the most tech-savvy instructor to integrate it into their courses.

EchoSystem 3.0 helps universities respond to this challenge by ingesting, managing, editing and publishing video and rich media instruction captured on and off campus with a single, automated workflow. Simultaneously, the EchoSystem delivers a more engaging experience for students by displaying video and other instructional media into a new online learning environment.

With EchoSystem 3.0, institutions can:

  • Engage Students with an App-Based, Personalized Online Learning Environment: EchoSystem 3.0 introduces a sleek learning environment that entices students to personalize the learning experience and engage with their instruction. The new EchoSystem player enables apps for scene-based navigation, keyword search, feedback and more. The app-based approach, validated by focus groups, allows students to give their undivided attention to the instruction and interact within the player at their discretion. This new architecture also simplifies and accelerates the introduction of future apps for both students and instructors.

  • Capture Everywhere with External Media Ingest: Organizing and accessing existing instructional media -- as well as the plethora of content created with third-party recording devices -- is a daunting task. EchoSystem 3.0 simplifies this process by incorporating content captured with other screen recording tools and cameras into the EchoSystem platform. The EchoSystem serves as a consolidated, automated solution for any and all academic media content, including lecture recordings produced natively by the EchoSystem,

  • Promote and Protect the University Brand with Video Intros, Watermarks, Custom Branding and Copyright Notices: As institutions expand into new markets, and video content becomes easier to share, protecting the school's identity is of increasing importance. The EchoSystem provides several options to promote the university brand and identify content ownership while acting as a "quality seal" for the individual accessing the media. Institutions can insert a sanctioned video clip before a recording while watermarks can be embedded on both video and VGA streams. Logos and custom graphics can be applied to the header banner of the EchoSystem learning environment. EchoSystem 3.0 also allows an institution to insert copyright notices to identify the owner of intellectual property contained in the recording.

Other features of EchoSystem 3.0 include the expansion of system monitoring to include capture, processing and publishing status; cuts editing capability throughout the recording to streamline the creation of learning modules; and, classroom-based, video-only capture and playback.

"Institutions create and own more content than many television networks or media companies. And yet, it remains an underutilized teaching asset because it is simply too hard to access it on a university-wide scale," said Fred Singer, Echo360 CEO. "EchoSystem 3.0 unlocks academic media by helping institutions take control of their media while creating an exciting and interactive experience for students."

EchoSystem 3.0 will be generally available in December 2010.
