car2go Named Marathon Relay Title Sponsor

LIVESTRONG Foundation Expands Partnership With car2go for Inaugural Marathon Relay

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwired - May 23, 2013) - The LIVESTRONG Foundation announced today that car2go will become the title sponsor of the first car2go Marathon Relay benefiting the LIVESTRONG Foundation on Sun., Sept. 22 in downtown Austin.

The relay, consisting of six equal legs of 4.37 miles, begins and ends on Riverside Drive (across from Auditorium Shores) and will allow for teams as small as two and as large as six to complete a full marathon of 26.2 miles. Each participant can run as many or as few 4.37-mile loops as they choose, and hand the baton off at the Relay Exchange Zone to a teammate to continue the race. Registration is now open at Money raised from the relay will go directly to support the LIVESTRONG Foundation's programs and services that improve the lives of the 14 million Americans affected by cancer now.

"We are so thankful to have a partner as committed to the Foundation's mission as car2go has been for the past three years," said LIVESTRONG Foundation President and CEO Doug Ulman. "The Marathon Relay is an exciting opportunity to expand our partnership while benefitting people that are affected by cancer."

"We are honored to be a part of the LIVESTRONG Foundation's ongoing efforts to help those affected by cancer," said Nicholas Cole, President and CEO of car2go North America. "Special events, such as the car2go Marathon Relay, continue to emphasize the Foundation's commitment and allow car2go members to give back to the community."

The Foundation first collaborated with car2go in February 2010 as a beta partner prior to the car-sharing program's public launch. Since then, the two have significantly increased their ties through sponsorship of the Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Austin, involvement in the LIVESTRONG transportation program and last year's unveiling of the car2go parking spot at the Foundation's headquarters in East Austin. The spot includes an electric charging station to accommodate its electric car fleet.

Members of car2go are able to use its cars for free while volunteering in the Foundation's transportation program, which offers free transportation to cancer survivors to and from cancer-related medical appointments in Travis County. Since the program commenced in January, more than 500 rides have been utilized by clients who are in need of rides to chemotherapy, radiation and other life-saving treatments. During car2go's member appreciation party tonight, one free minute will be donated to the program for every minute won by members during the park2win parallel parking contest.
