AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - Aug 8, 2012) - Today at a special event at its East Austin headquarters, the Lance Armstrong Foundation announced that car2go will serve as a sponsor for the Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Austin on Sun., Oct. 21. In recent months, car2go has expanded its presence in Austin by increasing its operating area and network of cars, as well as unveiling a designated car2go parking spot at the Foundation's headquarters at 2201 E. 6th St. The spot also includes an electric charging station to accommodate the program's electric car fleet.

"We are extremely grateful for car2go's generous contribution to the Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Austin," said Doug Ulman, Foundation president and CEO. "We are excited about expanding our relationship with car2go through our shared vision of bettering our community through sustainable living practices."

"car2go is pleased to work with the Lance Armstrong Foundation and sponsor the 2012 LIVESTRONG Challenge in Austin," said Nicholas Cole, president and CEO of car2go North America. "This is a natural extension of an already great relationship with the Foundation."

The Foundation first collaborated with car2go in February 2010 as a beta partner prior to the car-sharing program's public launch and supports car2go's mission to drastically change transportation in Austin.

To celebrate its 15th year of serving people affected by cancer, the Foundation's 2012 Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Austin on Sun., Oct. 21 will be a monumental cycling event in the heart of downtown Austin. Leaving from the north side of Palmer Events Center on Riverside Drive, cyclists will ride 20 - 100 miles, based on their experience and fitness level. Registration is now open and the entry fee for all riders is $50. For those passionate about fighting cancer, the Foundation offers additional fundraising opportunities while supporting programs and services for cancer survivors and their loved ones. Keeping with the tradition of all Team LIVESTRONG Challenge events, the Foundation will host a post-event party for riders and spectators complete with local food vendors, Team LIVESTRONG sponsors and there will be an activity area for kids. About car2go
car2go provides an entirely new way of carsharing that gives members 24/7 access to a free-floating network of smart fortwo cars. It differs from traditional carsharing or car rental companies, particularly in these three areas:

  • BY THE MINUTE: Members pay only for the time they use the car, by the minute, with discounted rates for hourly and daily use. There is no minimum amount of time that a car can be used. Whether a member needs a car for 10 minutes or an entire day, members simply get in and drive for as long as they want, without having to commit to a specific return time or location. Parking, fuel, maintenance and insurance are included at no additional cost, and there are no annual or monthly fees.
  • ON DEMAND: Members can use the first available car2go they find, via a smartphone app, via the car2go vehicle finder at car2go.com, by calling the customer call center, or by simply locating an available car2go. Reservations are not required because with car2go, members have unrestricted and unlimited access to car2go vehicles 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • FREE-FLOATING: Members can pick up and drop off a car2go anywhere within the car2go Home Area. They can simply drive the car for as long as they need it, park the car in one of the designated parking areas, and end the rental by swiping the card on the windshield reader. Instantly the car becomes available for the next member to use.
