Caravanners Save Money by Holidaying With Their Hounds

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Oct. 10, 2010) - Britain's love of dogs is as strong as ever, especially amongst the caravan community, as a new survey by Safeguard UK reveals that caravanners are most likely to always take their beloved pets on holiday with them.

The online survey of 1200 customers conducted by the leading caravan insurance retailer Safeguard, discovered that more than half of British dogs get taken on holiday at least once a year, however, caravanners smash this trend, taking their dogs away on every break they take.

A big perk of holidaying with your hound is that it also helps with regards to the costs of kennels, with all customers surveyed preferring to have their pets with them rather than pay up to £20 per night to a kennels. It seems that caravan customers just can't bear to be parted from their dogs for any length of time, and enjoy having them along for their break.

Many UK caravan sites have cottoned on to this trend and have started catering to dogs' needs in order to attract their owner. Safeguard has produced a list of the top ten dog friendly caravan hot spots:

  1. Monkey Tree Holiday Park, Newquay, Cornwall
  2. Thornton's Holt Camping Park, Radcliffe-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire
  3. Wellington Country Park, Reading, Berkshire
  4. Rhos Caravan Park, Isle of Anglesey, North Wales
  5. Wild Rose Park. Appleby-in-Westmoreland, Cumbria
  6. Cayton Village Caravan Park, Scarborough, North Yorkshire
  7. Glencoe Independent Hostel, Glencoe, Argyll, Scotland
  8. Woodhouse Farm Caravan Park, Ripon, North Yorkshire
  9. Alpine Grove Touring Park, Chard, Somerset
  10. Drumaheglis Marina and Caravan Park, Ballymoney, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland

Rita Sadler, Safeguard Insurance manager said: "For caravan owners, dogs are as much a part of the caravanning lifestyle as the caravan itself. It's great that caravanners are able to take their pets away with them – one of the many benefits of a caravan holiday! However, we'd urge dog owners to ensure their dogs behave and don't cause chaos or mess at a site, as this can lead to inconvenience for other caravanners, and also to make sure they keep an eye on their pet at all times, as it is much more likely to run away or get lost in unfamiliar surroundings."
