What is a Songwriters Round?

Songwriters taking turns to lend voice to their varied experiences and observations.

This is very similar to a Folk Festival Workshop Stage.

Creating an intimate atmosphere, a Songwriters Round encourages informal interplay and camaraderie among performers and audience alike. It makes for a very enjoyable evening for everyone.

PERFORMERS:

Wyatt Easterling is a Nashville songwriter with deep folk and Americana ties. Originally from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, his music reflects the storytelling tradition that defines that part of the country's musical heritage. With his new release, "Where This River Goes" on High Horse Records, Wyatt's intricate guitar work and smooth voice immediately pulls in the listener and takes us through poignant stories taken from the world that surrounds each of us. From the title track to his duet with Jessi Colter Jennings ("Sounds Like Life to Me") Wyatt's album is a collection of masterfully crafted songs with captivating melodies and lyrics that always hit home. Understated yet powerful, Wyatt's songs exhibit a sensitive strength and a vulnerable clarity that have led artists such as Dierks Bentley, Joe Diffie, Neal McCoy and Billy Joe Royal to embrace his writing. Having written songs that have seen platinum success and risen to the top of the charts, Wyatt displays an unwavering ability to craft songs that hit home.

The Jeffersons (Lisa Brokop & Paul Jefferson) is a new act comprised of two seasoned singers, songwriters and recording artists. Lisa and Paul have enjoyed considerable success during the past two decades, but together, their voices and talents blend in a new and inspiring way. They met for the first time at a Starbucks in Nashville. A few hundred coffees later...they were married. In the years that followed that initial meeting in the coffee shop, they never once contemplated combining their musical talents. As a solo act you get used to carrying the load and being the person alone out in front. Then one night during a concert Lisa was performing, Paul joined her onstage for a special one-song duet. The crowd went wild. And The Jeffersons were born.

Lindsay Ell delivers finely-crafted country music that has won the respect of some of the industry's biggest names and will thrill you with its energy and emotion. At the tender age of 22, she already boasts a list of supporters, mentors and collaborators a veteran would envy: Randy Bachman (Guess Who/BTO). Buddy Guy. CJ Vanston (Spinal Tap, John Mayer). Russell Broom (Jann Arden). Bill Bell (Jason Mraz, Tom Cochrane). Chris Isaak. Shawn Mullins. Suzie McNeil. Serena Ryder. The reason is simple: Lindsay Ell has something to say. And, the success continues. Lindsay is currently working on new music in Nashville, TN with New Voice Entertainment (Thompson Square).

Carolyn Harley is a well-established Calgary songwriter. She performs a high energy mix of country, swing, folk, blue-grass and blues. Carolyn has a strong vocal style and loves to use rhythm and humour to motivate her songs and her audience. Carolyn writes in a wide range of styles and her songs have been picked up by artists with a wide range of styles. A Cajun tune "Ca Va Brasser: was the single international release for Crystal Plamondon. A co-write with Dean Marshall "A Shadow Blocks My Way" toured China with the fiddle group Barrage. "The Ballad of the Famous Five" was used on a national TV show at the unveiling of the monuments to the Famous Five. "Merry-Go-Round", a co-write with Eva Levesque was released June, 2011 by roots band The Travelling Mabels. "I'll Soon Be Gone" was also released in June, 2011 by bluegrass band Wild Rose Xpress. Carolyn, in the persona of Zelda Bliss, recently had a unique opportunity to entertain a busload of women who were visiting Calgary from several different countries. She waited, as pre-arranged, at a gas station and flagged down a passing tour bus and begged for a ride to an appointment where she claimed she had to perform. She was the "Hitchhiking Cowgirl" Her car, she said, was not working. She was in a 'pickle'. During the trip, Carolyn entertained them with music. They listened to one of Carolyn's songs called Yesterday's Hero about a rodeo cowboy and did actions to one of Carolyn's songs called Left Right. They joined in with much laughing and enthusiasm. Everyone finished the short ride with "Good Bye My Friends Goodbye" in French. With a doff of her cowboy hat from the curb Carolyn waved goodbye to the bus load of beautiful women who had shared a brief cultural encounter. The 'Hitchhiking Cowgirl" headed home with a smile and a heart full of wonderful memories.
