The Care We Need: New Home Care Report Voices Concerns Raised by Ontarians in Cross-Province Consultations, Sets a Vision for Home Care Reform

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - March 10, 2015) -

When: Tuesday, March 10 at 9:45 a.m.
Where: Queen's Park Media Studio, Ontario Legislative Building, Toronto
What: Home care reform is at the top of the public agenda. Later this month, Ontario's Auditor General will table her special report on the CCACs and home care. The Minister's "expert" panel was supposed to have delivered their report to the Minister in late January. Public outcry over mass cut-offs of home care clients, poor access, and poor coordination continue to be reported repeatedly by media. But in the Legislature, the Minister of Health has questioned whether or not people in need are really being denied care. The Ontario Health Coalition held cross-province round tables with almost 100 people including families of home care clients, seniors' organizations, nurse practitioners, home care providers, nurses, personal support workers, community health and social service agencies, faith leaders and others who have direct experience with home care. We are releasing a report based on those consultations, identifying the experiences of patients (clients) and caregivers, describing the trends across the province, and laying out a vision for progressive reform.
