CareFamily Provides Help at Home for the 5.2 Million Americans Dealing With Dementia and Alzheimer's

CareFamily's New Model in Senior Home Care Gives Families the Protection of an Agency With the Cost Savings of a Private Hire

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA--(Marketwired - Dec 12, 2013) - CareFamily, a pioneer in online caregiver matching and self-directed home care for seniors, today announced help for families and caregivers working with individuals with dementia and its most common form, Alzheimer's disease. CareFamily's new model in senior care safely matches families with pre-screened, qualified and bonded caregivers and provides families with the online tools they need to remotely manage care online, saving up 30 to 40% on the cost of care.

"Fifty percent of the families we are working with at CareFamily involve caregivers and adult children who are dealing with a senior suffering from some sort of dementia or Alzheimer's," said Tom Knox, Founder and CEO of CareFamily. "Our goal is to offer families the opportunity to find caregivers in their local area who are experienced with Alzheimer's care, and allow families to choose and be matched directly with the right caregiver, to enable their loved one to stay at home long-term (the goal of many) at a very affordable price."

After only one year in business, CareFamily has over 50,000 caregiver members servicing families in 36 states. CareFamily's Protection Package includes caregiver background screenings, bonding, liability insurance, and complete tax management to ensure compliance.

"My mom started having memory issues about five years ago, and was subsequently diagnosed with dementia," said CareFamily client Nevienne Tate-Alpough. "It took some convincing for my dad to finally accept that they needed help at home. Angie's List showed high ratings for CareFamily, so I went to their website and started our search for care. After a couple of phone interviews, we selected Veronica, who then came to the house to meet with my dad and our family in-person to make sure we all clicked. Veronica has been wonderful! She helps with my mom and the household duties, and CareFamily takes care of the invoicing and keeps the payments running smoothly. It's been a huge relief to us all."

How it works

Families seeking care simply go to and click on "Register for Care Now." After completing a short online questionnaire and submitting a $30 one-time fee, care seekers are instantly given the best caregiver matches in the geographic area requested, including the top 10 matches. The care seeker then contacts the caregivers of their choosing for an interview and after the hire, arranges start date, schedule and pay rate. Families review and approve the caregiver's invoices each week, and payment can be made by bank draft or credit card. CareFamily manages the taxes and provides the necessary reporting for compliance. All that is required is one electronic signature.

"CareFamily has made a huge difference for me and the family I work for," said Veronica Wangombe, CareFamily caregiver. "Unlike traditional agencies, with CareFamily I get to work directly with the family, and I have control over my schedule. I got to meet Nevienne and her whole family in the interview. I really felt a connection and we are very comfortable with one another. I have been working with seniors with Alzheimer's and dementia for the past 9 years. Nevienne's mother is always happy to see me, and even if she doesn't always know my name, she calls me 'her friend.'"
