Carena Expands Service With Virtual House Calls

Company Adds Webcam Visits and Phone Care to Its Proven House Call Delivery Model

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - February 7, 2011) - Carena, Inc. (www.CarenaMD.com) has extended its industry-leading 24/7 house call service to include "Virtual House Calls" delivered via webcam or telephone. The new services enable Carena to extend the geographic reach of its services and further reduce cost for clients and patients.

"Our team is available 24/7 to respond to calls from patients, assess the situation, and deliver the most appropriate type of care via phone, webcam, or house call," explained Ralph C. Derrickson, President and CEO of Carena. "Our new delivery system means companies and organizations no longer have to choose between the health of their people and the health of their bottom line -- they can improve both with Carena."

Carena's enhanced care delivery capabilities are enabled by the company's new proprietary clinical decision-making system called the C.A.R.E. Assessment(SM) System.

"By analyzing data from over 35,000 house calls delivered through Carena Urgent Care, we were able to develop a system that supports the delivery of Virtual House Calls," said Frances Gough, M.D., Carena's Chief Medical Officer. "The C.A.R.E. Assessment System improves the quality and consistency of our clinical decision making and reduces unwarranted variation in all modes of care delivery."

By providing appropriate, high quality care and education options when a patient's primary care physician is not available, Carena reduces health care costs for consumers, self-insured organizations, and health insurance plans. Studies have shown that not only does Carena reduce costs in the short term by replacing an expensive Emergency Room visit, but it also lowers costs by reducing future hospitalizations for many patients.

To support the development of new markets and geographies, Carena has expanded its board and management team. Allen D. Feezor, Senior Policy Officer for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and Dr. Chris Kryder, M.D., former CEO of Verisk Health have joined the Carena Board of Directors. The company also announced that Craig S. Russell, formerly Senior Vice President for Health Dialog, has joined the executive team as Executive Vice President of Business Development.
