CAST Names Dr. Bill Curtis Senior Vice President and Chief Scientist

Globally Recognized Expert Brings Proven Experience to Industry Leader

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - May 8, 2008) - CAST, the leader in Automated Application Intelligence, today announced that it has appointed Dr. Bill Curtis as Senior Vice President and Chief Scientist. Dr. Curtis is a globally recognized expert in software process and quality who co-authored the Capability Maturity Model (CMM), the People Capability Maturity Model, and the Business Process Maturity Model. The CMM and its successor, CMMI, have become the world's leading standards for evaluating the capability of a software development organization.

Dr. Curtis will be focused on helping IT customers improve their software quality and processes, while educating the industry to the value of continuous, holistic quality management. Over time, Dr. Curtis will work towards a definition of a software quality model for business IT.

"The challenge of the last fifteen years has been to get application development processes under control. Now that most application organizations have begun improving their development processes, the next challenge is to directly address the quality of the software on which their businesses depend," said Curtis. "I'm happy to be joining such an experienced management team and working with them to extend the company's excellent track record. CAST is well-positioned to provide continued leadership in the application intelligence space, with superior technology and consistent customer success."

Dr. Curtis was a co-founder and Chief Scientist of TeraQuest, the global leader in providing CMM-based services, which was acquired by Borland. He is a former Director of the Software Process Program in the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to joining the SEI, Dr. Curtis directed research on advanced user interface technologies and the software design process at MCC, developed a global software productivity and quality measurement system at ITT's Programming Technology Center, evaluated software development methods and metrics at GE Space Division (now Lockheed Martin), and taught statistics at the University of Washington.

"Dr. Curtis' experience, specifically with software development processes and quality metrics, will be an outstanding addition for our team," said Vincent Delaroche, CAST Chairman and CEO. "His thought leadership will help ensure that CAST continues to lead the market, placing continuous software quality management and all its benefits within reach of business IT executives worldwide."

Dr. Curtis has published four books, more than 150 articles, and is on the editorial boards of several industry journals. He was recently elected a 'Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' for his contributions to software process improvement and measurement.
