Catavolt Report Says 80 Percent of Manufacturing Operational Excellence Leaders Believe They Will Get a Productivity Boost From Mobile Technology

Survey Reveals Manufacturers Plan to Expand Use of Mobility to Drive Operational Excellence in a Variety of Manufacturing Applications

ALPHARETTA, GA--(Marketwired - Feb 3, 2015) - Catavolt, Inc. today published a report, "Accelerating Operational Excellence in 2015: Trends and Technology," which analyzes the trends and technology that are shaping operational excellence initiatives in 2015. The report was compiled from the results of a survey conducted from September 2014 to December 2014, with over 100 respondents working in a variety of industries, providing their perspective on the following topics:

  • The top challenges that manufacturers experience when implementing operational excellence initiatives
  • The definition of success for operational excellence initiatives
  • Current and future investments in operational excellence initiatives
  • Current and future usage of mobile technology for advanced manufacturing
  • Specific manufacturing applications where mobility adds value

Responses from the survey were overwhelmingly positive in regards to future growth of operational excellence initiatives in manufacturing, with over 85 percent indicating investments in operational excellence would increase in 2015. There is no shortage of challenges involved with these initiatives, specifically challenges related to data; three areas of concern noted were the ineffective usage of data, accuracy and reliability of data, and data being held in "information silos."

Operational excellence teams are increasingly looking to work with their information technology teams to mobilize data with the purpose of alleviating data access, consumption and management challenges. The desire to deliver real-time data for better decision-making was listed as the most impactful application for mobility in a manufacturing organization. Over 80 percent of respondents believe that mobile apps for manufacturing could provide productivity gains of at least 6 percent in their operations. The majority (55 percent) of respondents are planning to increase their usage of mobile technology in 2015.

"Manufacturing organizations are some of our most innovative and driven customers when it comes to creating apps to modernize existing business processes," said George Mashini, Chief Executive Officer at Catavolt. "The data in this report demonstrates that there is still a tremendous opportunity for manufacturers to create customer value using mobility, no matter where they are on their operational excellence journey."
