Cavalier Launches New Flexible IP Voice Options for Business

SIP Solutions Deliver Unmatched Quality and Simplicity

RICHMOND, VA--(Marketwire - August 31, 2010) -  Cavalier, a leading provider of competitive telecommunications services throughout the eastern United States, today announced the expansion of its SIP-based services. Cavalier's new capabilities and package options make IP voice services easier to install and meet a wider range of business needs.

The company has taken advantage of the inherent flexibility of an all-IP connection to offer a Session Initiated Protocol (SIP) solution that scales smoothly for maximum flexibility. With Cavalier's modular product options, customers specify the parameters that work best for their business, including choice of bandwidth, number of concurrent calls, voice compression, internet speed, private network options, and security and calling features.

At the heart of the service is Metaswitch's voice and multimedia platform. The platform enables Cavalier to offer traditional features like call re-direct, direct inward dial (DID), calling name display, E-911 as well as advanced capabilities like enterprise-shared trunking and private dial plans. IP voice service is available throughout Cavalier's footprint and has been tested and approved for use with a range of IP PBXs.

"These new service options make a SIP trunk the obvious choice for businesses looking for a feature-rich alternative to a TDM T1 or for those converting to an all-IP infrastructure," said Clint McDonald, product manager, Cavalier. "With a converged network, SIP traffic is transmitted securely along with a variety of other applications and protocols, creating bandwidth efficiencies for customers."

IP voice service, based on SIP, is delivered via a standard Ethernet connection directly to an IP PBX or other IP voice system. For an all IP service, SIP is the conduit for the delivery of cloud-based enhanced services. System administrators can easily add call paths without the physical constraints of port capacity or time-division multiplexing (TDM) channels.

IP voice services ride Cavalier's fiber optic network at speeds from 1 Megabit per second (Mbps) to multi Gigabits per second (Gbps). The connection to the customer is dedicated, making available the full bandwidth of the service in both directions. When other services are added, Cavalier's transport network ensures that voice conversations take priority. Cavalier owns and manages the backbone network and all of the equipment that comprises the service to deliver calls for the highest possible voice quality.

To overcome the challenge of interfacing with an increasing number of SIP-enabled systems with an even greater number of software versions, Cavalier has created an accelerated testing process. In this process, each new installation is put through a series of technical tests before the service goes live.
