Cavium Networks Introduces TurboDPI -- A Complete Solution Integrating Protocol Analysis, Application Recognition, URL Filtering, IDS/IPS and Anti-Malware

Offers Production-Ready, Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) Software With Market-Leading Performance for Enterprise OEMs, 3G & 4G Wireless and Service Provider Equipment Manufacturers, Along With Customization Services

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - January 10, 2011) -  Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, and the digital home, today announced TurboDPI™, the industry's first off-the-shelf multi-function security software solution optimized for OCTEON II processors. TurboDPI utilizes Cavium Networks patent pending new Uniscan™ technology that is incorporated in all multi-core OCTEON II processors to simultaneously block malicious or inappropriate URLs, identify hundreds of widely used protocols and applications, help block thousands of different intrusion attempts and locate over a hundred thousand varieties of virus and malware threats, all with just a single scan of the data stream, enabling the highest performance at up to 40Gbps. TurboDPI enables market-leading performance and speeds up time to market for Enterprise OEMs, 3G & 4G Wireless equipment manufacturers and Service Providers suppliers.

With the advent of Cloud-based Services, SaaS and Social Networking all riding over Port 80, the ability to inspect content at wire speed is fast becoming a "must have" feature for many products lines. The complexities of adding just one DPI related application, let alone adding multiple DPI functions has been a daunting task to some customers. Now with TurboDPI, equipment manufacturers can more easily integrate DPI to enable a variety of features such as protocol analysis, application recognition, intrusion prevention, anti-malware protection, URL Filtering, unified threat management, antivirus gateways, subscriber charging, application aware QOS and service level agreements, usage monitoring and preventing denial of service.

"Demand for deep strong security in the service provider and Enterprise segments is strong. Our research shows that nearly all service providers are increasing Web and content security gateways to protect cloud-based services, SaaS and the ballooning global population of mobile devices," said Jeff Wilson, Principal Analyst for Security at Infonetics Research, Inc. "Enterprises and service providers will spend more than $6.9B on network security in CY14, with integrated security appliances accounting for more than two-thirds of that spending."

TurboDPI Highlights
Cavium's TurboDPI solution consists of carrier-grade, deep packet inspection software which can be utilized inline or out of band to detect hundreds of protocols including Internet (HTTP, FTP etc), Email (IMAP, POP3, SMTP etc.), Web 2.0 (Facebook, Myspace, etc), Multimedia (Flash, Quicktime, Youtube, etc), Peer to Peer (Bittorrent, eDonkey, etc) and Voice and Messaging (Skype, GoogleTalk, Yahoo, etc). Cavium's TurboDPI software is highly flexible, easily upgradeable and fully customizable using a number of configurable detection engines for signature, heuristics and ports and also supports flow based detection. It is easily extensible via customer plug-ins during design stage or in the field.

OEM customers can utilize their own in-house signatures and rules or combine with best of breed anti-malware technology providers such as Kaspersky Lab to create a single solution for protocol analysis, application recognition, URL filtering, intrusion prevention and anti-malware.

"Providing highly-optimized Anti-Malware solutions is critical as threats proliferate at unprecedented rates," explains Peter Merkulov, Kaspersky Lab's VP of Technology Alliances. "Collaborative integration of Kaspersky Lab's award winning Anti-Malware technology with Cavium's newly expanded family of OCTEON II Processors will result in comprehensive malware protection with negligible network latency across an even wider range of platforms."

"The Cavium Solutions and Services team is taking DPI to the next level. As well as providing architectural, development and performance services, we now offer a complete ready to go DPI solution, not just APIs and toolkits, that can analyze the data stream to help identify protocols and applications, inappropriate URLs, intrusion attempts or malware, all in a single pass thru the data," said Safa Alkateb, general manager, Cavium Solutions and Services, "TurboDPI utilizes our advanced deep packet inspection acceleration hardware that is built into every one of our OCTEON II processors to enable our customers to quickly and seamlessly add DPI to their equipment for the first time or turbocharge their existing DPI designs."

TurboDPI is available as a binary executable or source code to manufacturers of networking, wireless and storage infrastructure equipment. Cavium Solutions and Services also offers extensive architectural, development and performance services to help customers integrate TurboDPI as quickly and as easily as possible.

A range of hardware modules preconfigured to run TurboDPI in PCIe, AMC and Intelligent Network Interface Cards (NIC) form factors will also be available.
