CBC Suncor Energy Food Bank Drive Surpasses $1 Million Goal!

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Dec. 24, 2010) - As of 9:45am Christmas Eve Day, the CBC Suncor Energy Food Bank Drive had raised $1,014,000 in an amazing demonstration of support by Calgarians for Calgarians!

With so many Calgarians still recovering from the effects of the recent recession, achieving the campaign goal this year was important as it supports the Food Bank's efforts to feed people into the new year. "Calgary has always been a city that cares," said James McAra, Chief Executive Officer of the Calgary Food Bank. "The support and generosity that Calgarians have shown their neighbours is overwhelming. Together we will continue to work towards a future without hunger."

In its 25th year, what is now known as the CBC Suncor Energy Food Bank Drive continues to help the Food Bank share food with those in need through many individual events and the dedication of hundreds of volunteers. This kind of support helps the Food Bank keep up with the demand for quality emergency food - a demand that increases by an average of 80% every December.

On an afternoon earlier this week Food Bank clients waited in a line of cars one kilometer long to pick up their hampers. A daily average of 70,000 pounds of food was distributed to clients through those emergency food hampers.

The staff and volunteers at the Food Bank, CBC and Suncor Energy would like to thank everyone who so generously contributed to this outstanding campaign.
