cbm Canada: Media Advisory-Celebrating Children With All Abilities

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 1, 2010) -

WHAT: cbm Canada (formerly known as Christian Blind Mission) is hosting "Celebrating Children with All Abilities" on December 3rd, the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities at a North York public school.

A leading international Christian development organization, cbm works specifically to meet the needs of persons with disabilities in the poorest countries of the world.

WHO: Toronto resident Tracey Ferguson, 3-time Paralympic Gold Medalist in Wheelchair Basketball, will be the motivational speaker at a special event honouring three North York elementary students. 

Ms. Ferguson, who has been a member of five Canadian Paralympic teams, will encourage and motivate children with all abilities. After the assembly, Ms. Ferguson will give a wheelchair basketball demonstration to Grade 5 students along with the Ontario Wheelchair Sports Association.

WHY: The purpose of this special event is twofold:

- to make students and teachers more aware of the challenges children with disabilities face in the poorest countries of the world;

- to recognize the outstanding achievements in academics, athletics and advocacy of three junior elementary students who themselves live with special needs.
