CBS 3's "Alex Scott Phone Bank" Raises More Than $700,000 for Pediatric Cancer Research

Phone Lines Jammed for Hours as Viewers Respond in Unprecedented Numbers

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - June 7, 2007) - The "Alex Scott Phone Bank," a 14-hour fundraiser held on CBS 3 today to raise funds for the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, has raised $710,985 for pediatric cancer research thanks to Delaware Valley television viewers. CBS 3's phone lines were jammed for more than 90 minutes after the fundraiser went off the air as viewers flooded the station with pledges ranging from $15 to $15,000. Some reported waiting up to two hours to get through to the volunteers taking pledges. Area businesses also contributed to the first-time fundraiser.

CBS 3 took the unusual step of breaking format today to air special segments from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The station made the time available in newscasts, in commercial break time and by pre-empting some of its syndicated programming. CBS 3's Larry Mendte spearheaded the station-wide effort to raise funds for the unique charity that evolved from the front yard lemonade stand of four-year-old Alex Scott, which, since her passing in 2004, has blossomed into a nationwide fundraising movement to find a cure for childhood cancer. Sister stations The CW Philly 57, KYW Newsradio, 98.1 WOGL, 94.1 Free FM WYSP and The Big Talker 1210AM WPHT pitched in along with CBS 3 on-air personalities and area businesses to staff the phone lines.

The Alex Scott Phone Bank kicks off Lemonade Days 2007 (June 8-10) when thousands of people across the country will take a stand against pediatric cancer by hosting lemonade stands of their own.

"Our CBS 3 family was proud to kick off the Foundation's big weekend with this terrific fundraising effort," says CBS 3 President and General Manager Michael Colleran. "Once again, the Delaware Valley has demonstrated its enormous generosity and compassion for others, living up to its name as the City of Brotherly Love."

"We are amazed at the generosity of CBS 3 and the entire Philadelphia region who are continuing Alex's dream of fighting childhood cancer," adds Jay Scott, Alex's Dad.

CBS 3 will be retelling the story of Alex Scott's brief but remarkable life in excerpts from the station's award-winning documentary, "Alex Scott: A Stand For Hope" which airs Sunday, June 10 at 11 a.m. on CBS 3 and at 12 noon on The CW Philly 57.

CBS 3 acknowledges the support of Toyota and Applebee's in making this special fundraising effort possible. CBS 3 (KYW-TV) is part of CBS Television Stations, a division of CBS Corporation.
