CBSA: Texas Man Charged with Failing to Report, Smuggling and Possession of Child Pornography

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 21, 2005) - A Texas man has been charged with failing to report, smuggling, and possession of child pornography, following a joint investigation between the Ottawa Police Service and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) at Macdonald-Cartier International Airport.

"This is the third seizure of child pornography by our staff at Ottawa Airport in five months," said Philip Crabbe, Chief of CBSA Macdonald-Cartier International Airport operations. "Training to identify this type of prohibited material is paying off," he added.

Following a work-documentation verification with immigration services on September 19, CBSA officers found, during a search of the individual's laptop computer, a movie which depicted prepubescent children engaged in explicit sexual acts.

Kevin Dewayne Moore, 43, of Grand Prairie, Texas is charged with one count each of failing to report goods, possession of child pornography, and smuggling, all under the Customs Act; and one count of possession of child pornography under the Criminal Code.

"We are committed to keeping this type of material out of our communities and will continue to fight this worldwide problem with our law-enforcement partners," said Sgt. Roch Lachance of Ottawa Police Services' High-Tech Crime Unit. "Every little bit helps," he said.

Moore is being held in custody pending further investigation. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 22.
