CCA Announces Creation of the Facilites Operations & Maintenance Association of Canada 'FOMAC'

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 21, 2005) - The Canadian Construction Association today announced the creation of a new Special Committee called the Facilities Operations & Maintenance Association of Canada (FOMAC). Although CCA will provide logistical and staff support, FOMAC will be an arms length organization with a specific mission statement and objectives.

The mission of FOMAC is to act as the voice of Canadian contractors providing operations and maintenance / site support services to major military and industrial facilities on all matters of national and international concern. It will lobby and communicate with the federal government and other key stakeholders on matters of interest to the sector. Its membership will be open to those organizations who are actively involved in the provision of operations and maintenance / site support services to major facilities within Canada; who are registered Canadian companies headquartered in Canada, and who are or become Corporate Members of CCA. Any company or organization meeting these criteria who wish to join FOMAC can contact CCA for membership information.

FOMAC also announced today that its first President would be Larry MacDonald, Vice-President of Black & McDonald Limited. The two Vice-Presidents are Don Chynoweth of SNC-Lavalin ProFac Inc. and Gerry Walsh of ATCO Frontec Group.

"We are very excited at the launch of this new organization," stated Larry MacDonald, President of FOMAC. "This new association will finally provide the operations and maintenance sector with a central voice, and an ability to shape government and industry policy for the benefit of each of our members."

Among the specific objectives of FOMAC includes a commitment to implement a Canadian industrial and security strategy that promotes the growth of a Canadian capability to provide site support services and provide a national support strategy that is seamless with the existing military capability. FOMAC will also develop a nationally recognized profile as the credible source of input for all matters affecting provision of site support services in Canada, and to provide a forum for the discussion of these common issues among contractors.
