CCNMatthews and The Canadian Press 'CP' Announce Strategic Alliance That Redefines News Release Distribution

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 14, 2005) - CCNMatthews and The Canadian Press (CP) proudly announce the signing of a strategic alliance to combine their respective strengths and become Canada's leading provider of news releases and related news distribution services. This agreement will take effect October 1, 2005.

This unrivalled alliance grants news releases transmitted by CCNMatthews direct and exclusive access via the CPWire Network to the newsroom editorial systems of nearly 700 newspapers, radio and TV stations and web sites across Canada. This is the same network used to deliver CP's own news copy directly into the newsrooms of their members' media outlets. This greatly enhances CCNMatthews' distribution reach, which already extends to thousands of media and financial outlets across the country and worldwide.

"We chose to partner with The Canadian Press because they are the most recognized media organization in the country," explained Michael J. Nowlan, CEO of CCNMatthews. "CCNMatthews is the only news release distributor to get client messages inside newsroom editorial systems and in front of journalists via the CP Wire Network. Our guaranteed delivery provides Canadian media with easy access to our clients' news in a format they are used to using, thereby improving the chances that messages are seen by the widest possible audience of journalists and reporters."

"CP has more than 85 years experience in the Canadian news industry and has been, and always will be, driven by a quest for first-rate journalism," says Eric Morrison, CP President. "This knowledge of how the media works and what they prefer benefits CCNMatthews clients seeking to communicate with Canadian newsrooms."

The marketplace will come to recognize a new icon. Its presence signifies that the CP Wire Network is the means of delivery of news releases into editorial systems and newsrooms of almost 700 major media outlets across the country - exclusive to CCNMatthews.

CCNMatthews is also introducing PR Direct a self-service news release distribution option that complements CCNMatthews' traditional full-service distribution offering for public relations professionals. PR Direct will provide CCNMatthews' clients with a fully automated service for distributing non-disclosure news releases from their desktops directly to the CP Wire Network.

"Since The Canadian Press successfully developed and launched PR Direct over a year ago, communications professionals at hundreds of organizations have been sending press releases directly to the media over the CP Wire Network from their desktops", says Mr. Morrison.

CCNMatthews will also gain exclusive access to CP's photo distribution network and will be the only news release distributor to resell CP's photo assignment and archive services. It is expected that services offered via this alliance will extend beyond these three key photo services to further enhance CCNMatthews' multimedia offering.

"Benefits to CCNMatthews' clients will be unmatched in the marketplace," explains Mr. Nowlan. "With the most extensive IP-based electronic distribution network available in Canada for full-text and photos, our ability to target media and financial contacts in Canada and worldwide, and our provision of an outstanding level of customer service, I am confident CCNMatthews provides a wider and more effective offering than any other news release distributor in Canada."

"Where NEWS is going" is the multimedia campaign introducing this alliance, drawing on both the distribution power of the CP Wire Network and the strength of CCNMatthews as news distribution experts focused on delivery. Events surrounding this alliance are scheduled for October 4th in Montreal and October 5th in Toronto. Details will be announced nearer to these dates.
