CDHA Brightening the Smiles of Women at the YWCA

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 15, 2006) - The Canadian Dental Hygienists Association (CDHA) and the YWCA Canada join forces to boost women's oral health. National Dental Hygienists Week™ and YWCA Week Without Violence™ fall during the same week - Sunday Oct. 15 to Saturday Oct. 21, 2006. To mark this occasion, CDHA and the YWCA Canada will promote oral hygiene self-care and wellness to women who have experienced violence and are currently living in YWCA Housing.

Dental hygienists from across Canada will donate their time to help improve the oral health of women who have fled violence. Dental Hygienists will facilitate oral health workshops and clinical services at YWCA's across Canada. Many women living at the YWCA face financial obstacles and are unable to access proper oral health care. Since many of these women do not have access to simple oral health aids such as new toothbrushes, CDHA will distribute toothbrushes to the YWCA compliments of Oral-B.

The 10th annual YWCA Week Without Violence™ is a world wide effort led by YWCAs in over 90 countries. YWCA Canada builds on the leadership of women and girls to promote community and artistic responses to all forms of violence.

There are many activities planned to unite people in identifying realistic and sustainable alternatives to violence.
