CDI Energy Products Releases Extensive NORSOK Certified Portfolio

Newly Certified Materials Give Operators New Materials to Use in Designs

HUMBLE, TX--(Marketwired - Jun 18, 2013) - Creating the largest and most comprehensive portfolio of NORSOK approved materials might be a lofty goal, but it is the target of CDI Energy Products, a leading global supplier of polymer components to the oil and gas industry. As part of the first stages of this portfolio development, eighteen compounds have been approved to NORSOK M-710 and ISO 23936:3001 standards.

The 6 thermoplastic and 12 elastomeric materials were tested for not only for rapid gas decompression (RGD) but for chemical aging as well.

The tested NORSOK compounds are used extensively in CDI OptiSeal® and OptiPak® sealing systems and can be used in applications such as FPSO swivel units, wellhead equipment, valves and downhole tool designs.

NORSOK M-710 qualification requires that all subcomponents of oilfield equipment be approved to stated specifications. Individual materials are rigorously tested and approved based on criteria such as explosive decompression resistance (EDR) and sour and sweet gas aging.

CDI Energy Products invested heavily in research to identify the optimum compound for each application. The testing for all applicable materials was contracted with independent laboratories, Materials Engineering Research Laboratory (MERL) located in the United Kingdom and Akron Rubber Development Laboratory Inc. (ARDL) located in Ohio, USA.

The NORSOK standards have been developed by the Norwegian petroleum industry to provide adequate safety and cost effectiveness for petroleum industry developments and operations. The NORSOK M-710 standard defines the requirements for critical non-metal (polymer) sealing, seat and back-up materials for permanent subsea use, including well completion, subsea and surface trees, controls systems and valves, and also applies to topside valves in critical gas systems.

The extensive range of innovative seal materials and ongoing material development of CDI Energy Products help it meet industry recognized standards, such as ISO 23936:2011, Non-Metallic Materials in Contact with Media Related to Oil and Gas Production, Part 2: Elastomers is the equivalent to NORSOK M-710, Annex B, R3 draft.
