Cedar Oak Plantation to Sell at Absolute Auction as Part of Tom Honecker Estate

HOLLY SPRINGS, MS--(Marketwired - Nov 21, 2013) - The Cedar Oak Plantation is a renowned 1,779-acre property that will sell in 16 tracts at absolute auction as part of the estate of the late Tom Honecker. With a carefully conserved quail habitat, the property is suited for field trials, having been host to both the Mississippi Shooting Dog Championship and the Prairie All-Age Trial, as well as white tail deer hunting and farming. The auction, which will take place on December 12, will be conducted by J. P. King Auction Company.

"Tom was very competitive, and he was able to run field trials at Cedar Oak, which was his lifelong dream and something we continue today," said Mary Honecker of her late husband, who passed away in 2010. "This is a central location for field trials, but it's also such great land. There's a lot of draw to what is natural, and it doesn't get any more natural than the beautiful, piney, rolling hills. If you're an outdoors person of any sort, this is an attractive place because of all the fishing and the deer, turkey and quail hunting you can do here."

In addition to the recreational and agricultural uses the property provides, the plantation maintains 351 acres on Tract 6 that includes a seven-bedroom, 7.5-bathroom lodge with an open living area and a large patio and pool, along with a master suite on the main floor with a garden tub and decor that includes two chandeliers from the Peabody Hotel in Memphis.

Also on Tract 6 are a barn, loafing pens with turnouts, a tack room, feed room, 14 covered kennels and a hay loft equipped to hold 400 bales of hay. An additional cabin and a three-bedroom, two-bathroom caretaker home sit on the property, along with a five-pen kennel, a pasture barn, a machinery shed, and a two-bay carriage house with pull down doors.

The remaining tracts, each of which is passed through or bordered by Cuffawa Creek, feature such opportunities as 673 acres of tillable crop land, including cotton and wheat bases and CRP land. Other tracts include a club house with a kitchen and gathering area, a barn with 22 stalls, corals, a shed and electronic hookups for campers, along with a block white storage building with frontage on Highway 4.

"Mr. Honecker worked for years to cultivate this property for the outdoorsman he was," said Craig King, president and CEO of J. P. King Auction Company. "This is a property that reflects the care it received, and with its close proximity to Memphis, will serve as an excellent hunting property in addition to its field trial qualifications."

The auction will take place on Thursday, December 12 at 11 a.m. at the property, which is located at 283 Mount Peel Road in Holly Springs. Property previews will be available by appointment from December 2 through auction day. For additional information, individuals may contact J. P.
