Cedar Point Communications' SafariFusion Named "2009 Top Pick" in the Americas

PacketCable 2.0/IMS Product Family Named as Top IP Application by Light Reading

DERRY, NH--(Marketwire - October 27, 2009) - Cedar Point Communications, a worldwide leader in integrated Voice over IP (VoIP) switching technologies for service providers, announced today that its new SafariFusion™ product family for PacketCable 2.0/IP Multimedia Subsystem services has been recognized as one of the "2009 Top Picks" by a leading telecommunications industry publication.

SafariFusion™, a flexible, cost-effective solution for cable system operators and network service providers seeking to deliver next-generation communication services, was cited as the Top Picks winner for the Americas in the "IP Applications" category by Light Reading, a trade publication covering telecommunications and cable. In addition, SafariFusion was named as one of the top three selections worldwide, along with NTT DoCoMo's IMS applications and XConnect Global Networks Ltd.'s Carrier ENUM Registry.

"The key points are that this is all about standards-based, software capabilities that are not tied to a hardware platform, enable applications to be developed by service providers and external third parties, and targets IMS and PacketCable 2.0 environments using the same tools," wrote Ray Le Maistre, international news editor for Light Reading. "That ticks a lot of boxes for what's going to be needed in the near future."

"One of the keys to deployments in scale of PacketCable 2.0/IMS services is simplifying what historically has been a highly-complex architecture," said Jeff Walker, vice president of marketing for Cedar Point Communications. "We're pleased that Light Reading has recognized the ability of SafariFusion's integrated, standards-based approach to quickly and efficiently bring new services to market and to enable fusing of these services to create an integrated digital lifestyle for consumers."

"Congratulations to all the companies and individuals who were selected as this year's Top Picks," said Phil Harvey, Light Reading's editor-in-chief. "The Top Picks were chosen by Light Reading's editors because they embody the trends that we feel are really pushing this industry forward."

SafariFusion leverages industry standard Web 2.0 tools and applications for rapid deployment of multimedia communications services, including the new SafariFusion™ Application Platform (AP) and two initial applications: the SafariFusion™ Residential Communication Application (RCA) for residential services, and the SafariFusion™ Registration and Routing Application (RRA) to simplify network registration, routing, and service roaming. The Cedar Point approach capitalizes on new functionality for the company's existing SAFARI C3 Multimedia Switching System that enables seamless migration to PC 2.0/IMS architectures, while providing investment protection for existing NCS and SIP endpoints.

The Cedar Point approach allows service providers to significantly reduce the number and complexity of network elements, providing simpler, more cost-effective deployment of PC 2.0/IMS services. At the same time, Cedar Point offers high degrees of flexibility, enabling SafariFusion to function in a multi-vendor configuration, or as part of a total Cedar Point solution.

Cedar Point Communications is demonstrating its PC 2.0/IMS solutions at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo (Booth 14081), October 28-30 in Denver.

Cedar Point has shipped more than five and a half million SAFARI C3 lines to customers in the Americas, the Caribbean and Europe. SAFARI C3 supports up to 250,000 lines of capacity in less than a cubic meter of space, incorporating all of the components that make up the voice switching infrastructure. It is being deployed for residential and business services by a diverse customer base that includes Cable System Operators, CLECs, Wireless Operators and Universities.
