Cedar Point Unveils Next Generation Platform for Simpler, Cost-Effective PacketCable 2.0 & IMS Deployments

Architecture Includes SafariFusion™ Application Platform, Key Applications, and New SAFARI C3 Capabilities

DERRY, NH--(Marketwire - October 19, 2009) - Cedar Point Communications, a worldwide leader in integrated Voice over IP (VoIP) switching technologies for service providers, announced today the launch of a versatile, next-generation solution that will enable cable system operators and network service providers to harness the flexibility of PacketCable 2.0 & IP Multimedia Subsystem architectures for carrier-class residential and business communications services.

The solution, which leverages industry standard Web 2.0 tools and applications for rapid deployment of multimedia communications services, includes the new SafariFusion™ Application Platform (AP) and two initial applications: the SafariFusion™ Residential Communication Application (RCA) for residential services, and the SafariFusion™ Registration and Routing Application (RRA) to simplify network registration, routing, and service roaming. In addition, Cedar Point has announced new functionality for the company's existing SAFARI C3 Multimedia Switching System that enables seamless migration to PC 2.0/IMS architectures while providing investment protection for existing NCS and SIP endpoints.

The Cedar Point approach allows service providers to significantly reduce the number and complexity of network elements, providing simpler, more cost-effective deployment of PC 2.0/IMS services. At the same time, Cedar Point offers high degrees of flexibility, enabling SafariFusion to function in a multi-vendor configuration, or as part of a total Cedar Point solution.

Cedar Point Communications is demonstrating its PC 2.0/IMS and solutions at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo (Booth 14081) October 28-30 in Denver.

Architected to provide carrier-class services for millions of subscribers, SafariFusion AP allows operators to provide a rich, dynamic user experience that fuses voice, video and data services. Using SafariFusion AP, operators can differentiate their service offerings by quickly bringing to market applications that are developed internally, by Cedar Point, or by third parties. Management of all network components and applications is consolidated within the SafariView™ element manager.

The initial applications available for SafariFusion AP, the SafariFusion Residential Communication Application (RCA) and the SafariFusion Registration and Routing Application (RRA) have been designed to enable rapid migration by service providers to critical PC 2.0/IMS functions. The RCA supports the features within the PacketCable 2.0 Residential SIP Telephony specification, including call forwarding, call waiting and others. The RRA has been designed to combine the functionality of multiple IMS elements, including the Interrogating Call Session Control Function (I-CSCF); the Serving Call Session Control Function (S-CSCF); the Home Subscriber Server (HSS); and the Breakout Gateway Control Function.

In addition to the SafariFusion lineup, the Cedar Point PC 2.0/IMS approach also leverages core capabilities of the company's SAFARI C3 Multimedia Switching System, to provide operators with the ability to simultaneously support NCS, SIP and IMS endpoints and allow for use of PC 2.0/IMS applications by legacy subscribers. The Media Gateway Control Function (MGCF), Media Resource Function Controller (MRFC), and Access Gateway Control Function (AGCF) allow operators to overlay PC 2.0/IMS networks on top of existing SAFARI C3 deployments without disturbing the legacy network-based call signaling (NCS) endpoints. The cable operators can migrate NCS endpoints at their own pace and begin to deploy PC 2.0/IMS services without adding additional network elements.

SAFARI C3 supports up to 250,000 lines of capacity in less than a cubic meter of space, incorporating all of the components that make up the voice switching infrastructure.
