Celebrate Champagne Week!

Office of Champagne, USA Launches New Web Site as Part of Weeklong, Nationwide Celebration of True Bubbly

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - July 9, 2007) - Office of Champagne, USA announced today the launch of its new Web site at as part of the initiatives marking the beginning of Champagne Week. The weeklong celebration of true bubbly is a nationwide effort to increase awareness among consumers, trade, and the media of the one and only sparkling wine that can bear the Champagne name.

Featured predominantly on the home page menu is the Office's online petition, which asks consumers to sign the Joint Declaration to Protect Wine Place & Origin. The declaration is a set of principles advocating for U.S. wine labeling laws to protect the name and maintain the integrity of wine growing regions around the world.

"Champagne is proud to be an original signatory of the declaration and founding member of the coalition of 13 wine regions -- including six American AVAs -- that stands in defense of truth-in-labeling. Consumers should trust that the place name on a bottle's label is equal to the origin of the wine," said Office of Champagne, USA Director Sharon J. Castillo.

The Web site is rich in information with content for every audience. Consumers will find tips on enjoying Champagne, recipes and suggested Champagne pairings from renowned chefs in the United States, ideas for making Champagne a part of every wedding and summer celebration, and an electronic Champagne club kit they can download with the click of a button. In the site's Newsroom, the media has access to a photo library with over 5,000 pictures of the Champagne region, statistics about shipments to the United States and press releases detailing the Office's initiatives. A special section is dedicated to the annual Champagne Pairing Culinary Contest, and the About Us section contains information on travel to the region. The site also features a Champagne Hotline, where the public can post questions and get answers from a Champagne expert.

The launch of the Web site coincides with the start of Champagne Week, July 8-14. During Champagne Week, the Office will spearhead 15 initiatives, including consumer tastings; a comprehensive earned media effort; outreach to chefs, sommeliers and wine trade; dissemination of Champagne content to wine and food Web sites; and distribution of collateral material to retailers, bars and lounges.
