Millions of Fans to Wear Their Colors on Friday, September 2 to Help Kick-Off the 2011 College Football Season

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - Aug 30, 2011) - As America goes back to school -- and kicks off the college football season -- College Colors Day on Friday, September 2 is that special day for the nation's 172 million college sports fans to wear their college colors and show solidarity for their team.

College Colors Day, in partnership with NCAA football, is an annual celebration dedicated to advocating higher education and promoting the traditions and spirit that embody the college experience by encouraging fans across America to wear their favorite college or university apparel throughout the day on Friday, September 2.

There are several ways that college fans can participate in College Colors Day.

Individual Participation:
The easiest way for an individual to participate is to wake up the morning of Friday, September 2, and wear college apparel representing their favorite college throughout the day -- it's that easy.

Offices and Organizations Participation in the College Colors Day Tailgate Sweepstakes:
Businesses and organizations from coast to coast are asked to make Friday, September 2 a fun day at the office by encouraging their employees to show their spirit and wear colors representing their favorite college. Thousands of business locations participate in College Colors Day annually. Each business or organization that registers their participation at is entered to win one of two $500 gift cards to be used toward an organization tailgate party. More details can be found at

Class and School Participation in the College Colors Day Classroom Sweepstakes:
In partnership with Scholastic, elementary, middle, and high schools across the country are encouraged to use College Colors Day as a unique day to teach students about the importance of pursuing higher education. During the week leading up to College Colors Day, there are several initiatives occurring across the country to encourage participation, including:

  • In-store and online marketing support from some of America's top collegiate retailers, with College Colors Day marketing collateral in more than 12,000 retail locations nationwide. Some of the marketing collateral features college football's Erin Andrews and Grammy Award winning artist Lady Antebellum.

  • Governors from several states across the country have already declared Friday, September 2 as College Colors Day including Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, and Oklahoma, among others.

  • The College Colors Day celebration officially kicks off nationally the night prior to College Colors Day at Riverfront Park and LP Field in Nashville, TN, with the 2011 College Colors Day Kickoff game featuring the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and the Kentucky Wildcats. The event is produced in partnership with the Nashville Sports Council and will also include a free concert with Mercury Records Laura Bell Bundy prior to the game.
