Celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week With One of the Premier Downtown Stuart Hotels

Week-Long Festivities Draw Attention to Popular Tourist Escape

STUART, FL--(Marketwire - May 3, 2011) - Celebrating the significance of travel and tourism to its economic and social well being, Stuart, FL and the surrounding Martin County area are joining in the annual observance of National Travel and Tourism Week May 7-15, 2011.

Area attractions, resorts and hotels near downtown Stuart are among those participating locally in this national event aimed at spotlighting the power of travel. A variety of events are slated throughout the county including proclamations, special presentations, a ribbon cutting ceremony and even a live radio interview in hopes of drawing attention the local tourism industry and the impact it has on the area.

Proclamations will open the week-long local observance in Martin County beginning with a 5 p.m. proclamation on May 9 by the City of Stuart Commissioners. The Martin County Commissioners will be the center of attention on May 10 with a 1:30 p.m. proclamation ceremony planned. City and county officials will then join forces at the Martin County / Stuart Chamber of Commerce luncheon on May 11 with a special Tourism Presentation to highlight the gathering. Taking a spin from the National celebration, this local observance will include a Tourism Rally combined with an Open House and Ribbon Cutting ceremony at the new Tourist Information Center from 5 to 7 p.m. on May 12, and the week of activities will conclude with a live radio interview over the Talking Tourism talk show at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 13. All Travel and Tourism Week festivities are open to the public.

First celebrated in 1984, this National observance was enacted by a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress in 1983 and President Ronald Reagan signed the first Presidential Proclamation urging citizens to observe the week with "appropriate ceremonies and activities."
