Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Family Day & Have Dinner With Your Kids

Honor Family Day With a Commitment to More Family Dinners

SOLON, OH--(Marketwire - September 27, 2010) -  If there was an easy road map that helped reduce the odds that your child would smoke, drink, or use drugs, would you follow it? Or one that increased the likeliness that your child would have a positive self-image and higher grades? Luckily for you, there is...and it's called family dinner.

Today, September 27th, marks the 10th Anniversary of Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children, which is a national movement to inform parents that the parental engagement fostered during frequent family dinners is an effective tool to help keep America's kids substance free.

According to The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA*) at Columbia University, it's extremely important to share this meal together as a family. CASA's studies show that the more often kids eat with their families, the less likely they are to smoke, drink, or use drugs. Family dinners also have a direct impact on positive self-image, higher grades and parent-child communication.

"If I could wave a magic wand to make a dent in our nation's substance abuse problem, I would make sure that every child in America had dinner with his or her parents at least five times a week," said CASA Chairman, Joseph A. Califano, Jr.

That's why the Nestlé STOUFFER'S® brand is encouraging everyone to celebrate Family Day, September 27th, by making the commitment to eat dinner with your kids more often. Acclaimed children's book author and illustrator Todd Parr feels so strongly about the lasting benefits of dinner time as a family that he's penned a new book called "Let's Fix Dinner," which is available on http://www.letsfixdinner.com/promotion.aspx/ToddParr for purchase.

"I have vivid memories of sitting around the dinner table with my family," said Parr. "It was a time for us to share experiences, and one of those times as a child where I felt safe and loved. This book will hopefully help families see the importance of eating dinner together and inspire them to find more time to do it."

Parr also wants families to remember the importance of serving wholesome family meals. He's partnering with Nestlé and STOUFFER'S to spread the LET'S FIX DINNER message, which stresses improving wellness for families by providing convenient, nutritious and delicious foods for them to enjoy together at the dinner table.
