Celebrating Canada's historic contribution to global health innovation!

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 23, 2014) - Rx&D, the association of Canada's research-based pharmaceutical companies, is pleased to announce the launch of Rx&D's Canadian Innovation Timeline to mark the centennial anniversary of the organization and our members in Canada.

The Canadian Innovation Timeline was developed in partnership with Let's Talk Science to celebrate and promote the incredible contributions Canadian researchers have made to the discovery and advancement of pharmaceutical and life science research. From the discovery of Insulin in 1921, to the development of Vinblastine for Chemotherapy in 1959 and the first HIV preventative vaccine in clinical trials today, Canadian life scientists, research institutions, government and industry share a proud history of improving human health through innovative medicines and vaccines.

Improvements in healthcare are driven first by scientific discovery and then by ensuring that patients have access to new and better medicines as they become available. Incremental discovery and innovation happen over time. They deliver hope and healing to patients and significant value for a vibrant and sustainable Canadian healthcare system.

Let's Talk Science led the research for the Timeline and has also incorporated this wealth of information into their CurioCity educational program, providing teachers with classroom ready resources for grades 8-12 to enrich learning about science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

"We are excited to elevate awareness about the important Canadian contributions to health innovation world-wide, and partnering with Let's Talk Science means that this information will extend to classrooms across Canada, to the next generation of researchers," said Russell Williams, President, Rx&D. "By looking back at our past century of accomplishment, we hope to inspire those interested in science for the future."

"We are pleased to partner with Rx&D to expand our CurioCity/CurioCité program," said Bonnie Schmidt Ph.D, President and Founder of Let's Talk Science. "Collaborations with industries and companies are essential to helping young Canadians explore the world of science and its importance to our everyday lives."

Available in English and French, the interactive innovation timeline will live on both the Rx&D and Let's Talk Science's CurioCity/CurioCité websites. It will continue to grow as more Canadian research leads to discovery and innovation and we encourage Canadians to contribute to the timeline via Twitter @rxandd.
